Mission Statement

In the tradition of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Nazareth Family Foundation exists to fund programs and services which create communities of love and hope, celebrate the oneness of the human family, enhance the quality of family life, promote the rights of the disadvantaged and denounce forms of injustice that erode the integrity of the human family.

The mission of Nazareth Family Foundation is an expression of the mission and values of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the sponsoring congregation.  The Sisters acknowledge that holy, healthy families are central to the transformation of the world. They commit themselves and their resources to enhance the quality of family life through all of their ministries and their partnerships.  They promote the rights of those who are disadvantaged and powerless and denounce forms of injustice that erode the integrity and sanctity of family life.

With these core commitments as a backdrop, the Board of Trustees of Nazareth Family Foundation offers you the process by which your organization may apply for grant funds which can help to further this mission as well as your own.

Evaluation Standards

Grant applications must support Nazareth Family Foundation’s mission and embody the values of Nazareth Family Foundation.  In reviewing the grant applications, the Board of Nazareth Family Foundation seriously considers your response to the following criteria in making its decision:

The proposed program/project:

• Meet a critical community need.  (e.g., supports housing to the homeless, assists in delivering care to the indigent, or addresses other critical family needs.)
• Strengthen the family as a societal unit.  (e.g., empowers the family to be self-determining, self-sustaining, and contributing to society.)
• Demonstrate collaboration. (e.g., connects with several partners with diverse experiences.  Provides proof of other income streams and contributed services.)
• Consciously address the moral and religious renewal of family life.  (e.g., has a faith development program, spiritual focus, or demonstrates a new way for evangelization.)
• Demonstrate a holistic approach to serving families in need.  (e.g., influences many elements of the family: health, social, education, training, economic, housing, cultural, physical environment, spirituality.)
• Further the tradition, spirituality, and charism of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.  (e.g., changes structures that endanger the foundation of family life; addresses issues of poverty and injustice affecting numerous families.)    

The Trustees award grants annually. The Executive Assistant to the Board initiates the process in December. Applicants complete and submit the grant application forms and any additional information within the allocated time frame. All grant applications must be complete to be accepted for review.

Process

• Applicants submit the completed Grant Application to Nazareth Family Foundation by the date indicated on the application.  
• Applicants submitting multiple proposals from the same non-profit organization submit the proposals together, including one cover letter that designates a priority ranking for the proposals.
• Grants will not be considered for:
  • Incomplete proposals
  • Proposals for the benefit of an individual
  • Proposals for building repairs &/or new construction
  • Proposals for capital campaigns &/or endowment funds.
  • A prior year grant award not being timely or adequately evaluated. 

Nazareth Family Foundation Board of Trustees meets to review the application and make funding decisions.
Organizations not sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth must have the endorsement of a Sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth who is familiar with the organization and its good works.
